Sebastian A. Cross
Sebastian A. Cross is an associate, practicing primarily in litigation, land use and real estate matters. His practice concentrates on shopping center development; zoning, planning and land use; real estate development; real estate; commercial real estate; housing law; appellate practice; historic preservation; litigation; and election, campaign and political law.
Mr. Cross received his B.A. degree from Washington & Lee University and his J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore, cum laude, where he was the associate articles director for the University of Baltimore Law Review.
Upon graduating from Washington & Lee University, Mr. Cross was employed as a legal assistant at Covington & Burling in Washington D.C. Mr. Cross served as an associate at Whiteford, Taylor & Preston in Baltimore, MD before joining Gildea & Schmidt, LLC in 2001.
Mr. Cross has been practicing real estate and land use law since being admitted to the bar and has participated in projects spanning the Greater Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area, including Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Harford County, Howard County, Anne Frederick County, Anne Arundel County and Calvert County. Mr. Cross has also lectured at various seminars on real estate law in general with a particular attention to the land use regulations in the State of Maryland.
He has overseen numerous development projects from initial consultation, processing for the project through the development and entitlement process and obtaining final building/use permits from jurisdictions. He has participated in the development of both small and large commercial and residential projects including receiving approvals for Planned Unit Developments. Mr. Cross also has participated in fair housing act cases, challenges to governmental legislature at both the Federal and local level and historic preservation cases. Throughout his legal career, Mr. Cross has dealt with a wide range of issues confronting developers, institutions, private citizens and the government as they relate to land use regulations.
Mr. Cross is a member of Baltimore County and American Bar Associations and the Maryland State Bar Association, Inc. He is a member of the Urban Land Institute, Greater Baltimore Economic Forum, Baltimore Downtown Partnership, the Homebuilders Association of Maryland and the Baltimore City Historical Society. Mr. Cross is also on the Real Estate Advisory Board for the new Real Estate education program at the University of Baltimore.
